Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Review

We've now stayed at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point twice, and somehow it keeps getting better. Between the incredible pools, fast water slides, suite upgrades, and excellent Globalist benefits through a Guest of Honor (GOH) booking, this has become one of our family's favorite Hyatt resorts in Florida.

We used a Guest of Honor and were upgraded to a Patio Suite. My kids loved that there was a foosball table on the patio and enjoyed playing after a long day at the pool or beach.

Resort Activities

My favorite part of Hyatt Regency Coconut Point isn't just the pools - it's the whole atmosphere.

Every day, the resort has activities planned for kids and families. There was always something fun going on, whether it was bingo, duck races down the water slides, or other organized games around the resort.

Even better? During bingo, parents have a chance to win a free drink, which was a fun surprise, especially since my husband won!

There's also a climbing wall that's a huge hit with kids (just remember to pack sneakers if they want to climb). It also has limited daytime hours so check the schedule before heading over there.

One of the things I love most is that every day feels different. There are so many activities that it never feels repetitive, even if you're spending most of your vacation at the resort. I will say, 3 nights was perfect for us but I could easily stay 4 nights. We don’t like to stay in one spot too long though.

The Pools & Water Slides

The water slides are perfect for kids who are 48 inches or taller. They're surprisingly fast, incredibly fun, and honestly just as entertaining for adults as they are for kids. We staked out chairs at the bottom of the two-person slide and laughed for hours watching people be spit out of the slide. It was highly entertaining!

There are a couple smaller slides for kiddos under 48 inches but the bigger ones are definitely more popular.

Our kids could have spent every minute racing down the slides - and they basically did. Even after two visits, they still weren't ready to leave and want to go back next year.

The lazy river was also glorious and had such a nice, relaxing vibe. There were plenty of tubes for everyone and we spent hours going around and around.

Don't Skip the Private Island

If there's one thing you absolutely shouldn't miss, it's the complimentary boat ride to the resort's private island. Sign up for a time slot once you arrive.

The boat ride itself is part of the adventure. Both times we've visited, we saw multiple dolphins along the way, which was such a memorable experience for all of us.

The island is shared primarily with Hyatt Regency Coconut Point guests (along with just one or two nearby properties), so it never felt crowded. Instead, it felt peaceful, secluded, and almost like having your own private beach.

We had no trouble getting enough lounge chairs, all with umbrellas, making it easy to spend the day relaxing.

As a self-proclaimed beach snob, I can honestly say this beach is absolutely stunning. The sand, the clear water, and the peaceful atmosphere completely exceeded my expectations. I could’ve stayed for days.

The island also has a beautiful restroom facility with a massive deck overlooking the Gulf, making it easy to spend hours there comfortably.

In fact, my only disappointment is that we didn't spend more time on the island. My kids were so obsessed with the water slides that they always wanted to head back to the resort!

Getting Around

One thing we appreciate about Coconut Point is how close it is to the Ft. Myers airport (RSW).

For our three-night trips, we've skipped the rental car entirely and simply used Uber and Lyft. It was easy, convenient, and much cheaper than paying for a rental that would mostly sit in the parking lot.

That said, if we were staying longer than three nights, we'd probably rent a car so we could explore more of the surrounding area.

Dining

The biggest downside of the resort is the cost of dinner. Like many resort properties, on-site dining can get expensive, especially for families.

They do have a great little store in the lobby called Cool Beans with lots of snack options and gelato that my kids loved.

Fortunately, there's a shopping area just a few minutes away by Uber or Lyft with several great restaurants.

Our favorite restaurant was Tommy Bahama just down the road. It offered a fun atmosphere, great food, and felt like a nice break from resort dining without requiring a long drive.

Why I Love Booking with Hyatt

When you book a Hyatt stay with points, Hyatt doesn't charge resort fees. That means your reservation can truly cost $0 out of pocket (aside from others expenses like meals).

That's a huge difference compared to many other hotel programs. For example, with Marriott, you may still have to pay resort fees, depending on the property.

Knowing that our room was completely covered by points made it so much easier to enjoy the vacation. Instead of spending our budget on the hotel itself, we could put that money toward memorable experiences, dining, and family activities.

It's one of the reasons I find Hyatt points to be some of the most valuable in the travel rewards world.

Our Travel Pointers: Exactly How We Booked This

In order to book this hotel, I opened the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card. This card earns 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards that can be transferred directly to Hyatt. If you do open this card, I would also recommend creating a free World of Hyatt account at the same time. This one welcome bonus can get you 3 nights at this hotel, depending on the time of year. Chase points currently transfer 1:1 to Hyatt, but will change to 4:3 this Fall (unless you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve which will still transfer 1:1).

If you qualify for a business credit card, I recommend choosing a business card over a personal card when possible. One of the biggest benefits is that most Chase business cards do not count toward Chase’s 5/24 rule. Chase generally limits you to opening 5 personal credit cards within a 24-month period, so choosing a business card allows you to earn the welcome bonus without using one of those five slots. This gives you more flexibility when deciding which cards to open in the future.

And you may qualify for a business card even if you don’t think of yourself as a business owner. If you own a small business, have a side hustle, sell anything online, freelance, or even earn occasional income outside of your regular job, you may qualify for a business credit card. Many people are surprised to learn they’re eligible.

If you don’t think you’d qualify for a business credit card, my next suggestion would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. This is one of the easiest, beginner-friendly travel cards. It is not a business card so it will count towards your 5/24 with Chase.

One of the reasons I love earning Chase Ultimate Rewards points is because they're so flexible. Instead of locking yourself into one hotel program, you can transfer them to Hyatt, Marriott, Southwest, United, and several other travel partners whenever you're ready to book. That flexibility makes them some of the most valuable points you can earn.

Pro Tip: Instead of adding your partner as an authorized user, consider having each of you open your own card. Once you've been approved, refer your partner to the same card (as long as you can both meet the minimum spending requirement, or stagger the applications by a month or two if needed). This strategy allows you to earn two welcome bonuses instead of one, helping you build your points balance much faster for future trips. 

What About the Ink Unlimited or Ink Cash?

The Chase Ink Unlimited and Ink Cash have great elevated welcome offers, but there’s one important thing to know: the points earned with these cards cannot be transferred directly to Chase’s hotel or airline partners.

To unlock Chase’s transfer partners, you need to have a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred. You can then combine the points you earn from your other Chase cards and transfer them to partners like Hyatt or Marriott.

I actually opened the Ink Cash before I had either the Ink Business Preferred or Sapphire Preferred because it had an elevated welcome offer that I wanted to take advantage of. I opened the Sapphire Preferred next, although I could have opened the Ink Business Preferred instead. Once you have a card that allows transfers, you can combine your Chase points and transfer them to travel partners.

So while the Ink Unlimited and Ink Cash can be great cards for earning Chase points, make sure you have a card that unlocks transfer partners if your goal is to use those points for travel.
