Quick Take

This wasn’t our first time visiting the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort, and that’s actually what made this trip even more special. We already knew this resort was one of our favorite family beach escapes - the incredible beach, the pools, the activities, and the relaxed Florida vibe are exactly why we keep coming back.

But this visit felt completely different thanks to one unforgettable surprise: an incredible upgrade from the room we booked to a Beachfront Lanai Suite. We originally booked a standard Tropical View room using Marriott Bonvoy points, but after reaching out before our stay, we were upgraded to a suite that completely changed the way we experienced the resort.

Having our own lanai steps from the beach, pools, and restaurants was a game changer -- especially traveling with kids. This trip was the perfect reminder that sometimes a little planning before your stay can make a huge difference.

Booking

  • Hotel: JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort

  • Length of stay: 3 nights

  • Booked: Tropical View Room

  • Room received: Beachfront Lanai Suite

  • Elite Status: Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite

Since we had stayed here before, I already knew how much we loved this resort. I wasn’t looking for a completely different experience, I just wanted to make this return trip extra special.

Before our trip, I reached out to the General Manager and shared that we were excited to be returning and would be celebrating our daughter's birthday. She responded that they would “take great care of us,” and they truly did. When we arrived, we found out we had been upgraded from our standard Tropical View room to a Beachfront Lanai Suite.

And wow… what a difference.

The JW Marriott Marco Island is already an amazing resort, but this suite took the experience to another level. The biggest difference was the location. Instead of taking elevators and walking through the resort every time we wanted to head to the pool, beach, or grab food, we could simply open our door and step outside.

The lanai gave us our own outdoor space overlooking the resort, with easy access to everything we wanted to do. It was the kind of upgrade that made traveling with kids feel effortless. And according to my kids, the swing in the suite officially set a new standard. They now compare every hotel room to this one.

One night when we returned to our suite, we were stunned to find a beautiful charcuterie board, cupcakes, birthday balloon, and a handwritten birthday card for our daughter. They also included a $50 arcade credit! It was one of those unexpected moments that made an already great vacation something we will never forget.

Resort Highlights

This resort has so many incredible features that it’s hard to choose a favorite. From the moment you walk into the lobby, you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere far beyond Florida. The first time we stayed here, I wondered if my cell phone would work because I forgot we were still in the US! The resort design, atmosphere, and attention to detail immediately make you feel like you’ve arrived somewhere special.

The resort has multiple pools, including a kid-friendly pool with a small waterslide and waterfall, as well as a more relaxing pool area that’s better suited for older kids and adults. But the true star of the show is the beach. It is one of the most beautiful beaches we’ve ever visited -- wide, pristine, and the perfect place to spend the day. There are plenty of chickee huts, volleyball nets, and water sports available, so there’s something for everyone.

I always like to rent chairs so we're guaranteed front row seats at the pool. They're not cheap, but it's an easy splurge when you are only paying the resort fee :)

The dining options at the resort are also a highlight. There are several great restaurants, including my favorite called Quinn’s where you can enjoy your meal with your toes in the sand. If you time it right, you may even get a front-row seat to the nightly fire dancer show while you’re eating!

The fire dancer show is always one of our favorite parts of the trip. Every night after the show, my kids insist on heading up to 10K Alley and honestly, we are happy to go along because it is so much fun. The atmosphere is energetic, with bowling, tons of arcade games and prizes, mini golf, and a restaurant all in one place. It is the perfect way to end the evening after a day at the beach.

During busier times of the year, the resort also offers additional activities like foam parties, Build-A-Bear workshops, inflatable slides, and more. Since we were only paying the resort fee during our stay, my husband and daughter decided to splurge on a parasailing adventure with Marco Island Water Sports. They had an amazing time, and I took advantage of the opportunity to put the purchase toward earning a new credit card sign-up bonus -- one of my favorite ways to maximize travel spending!

Final Verdict

Would we come back again? Absolutely. This wasn’t our first stay at the JW Marriott Marco Island, but it was easily our most memorable.

The resort itself is amazing, but the upgrade made this trip feel completely different. It gave us more space, more convenience, and a level of relaxation that made our family vacation even better.

Sometimes the biggest travel wins aren’t about booking the most expensive room, they’re about knowing how to maximize the trip you already planned.

Our Travel Pointers: Exactly How We Booked This

If I were booking this resort again today, I'd get the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card first because it's the best beginner card for travel rewards. After spending $5,000 in the first three months, you earn the welcome bonus plus the points from your $5,000 in spending. Those Chase points can then be transferred to Marriott Bonvoy to book your stay.

Why would I do it this way? Because Chase frequently offers transfer bonuses to Marriott. While there isn't one available right now, they tend to pop up several times a year. A common bonus is at least 50% more Marriott points when you transfer your Chase points. That means 100,000 Chase points could become 150,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned in the points and miles world is to earn your points before you need them. When you already have a stash of flexible points, you can take advantage of transfer bonuses and book award stays when prices are at their best instead of scrambling to earn points at the last minute.

If I already had the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, I would get the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card instead. Once you hold the Bonvoy Boundless Card for a year, you can upgrade to the Ritz Carlton Card which comes with a Free Night Award (up to 85k points) and lounge access. This is one of my favorite cards and the only way you can get it is to hold the Boundless first.

Pro Tip: Instead of adding your partner as an authorized user, consider having each of you open your own card. Once you've been approved, refer your partner to the same card (as long as you can both meet the minimum spending requirement, or stagger the applications by a month or two if needed). This strategy allows you to earn two welcome bonuses instead of one, helping you build your points balance much faster for future trips.

If you're thinking about getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Card, I'd really appreciate it if you'd use my referral link. If you're approved, you'll receive the same welcome offer, and I'll earn referral points at no additional cost to you. Those referral points help us book more family trips, which means I get to keep testing hotels, sharing reviews, and finding the best ways to maximize points for you.
